What is Provided?

Hospice care is a covered benefit under Medicare, Medicaid, and private insurance sold in the State of Kentucky.

The Medicare hospice benefit provides the following services:

  • Nursing services on an intermittent basis;
  • Physician services;
  • Drugs, including outpatient drugs for pain relief and medical symptom management;
  • Home health aide services;
  • Medical supplies and equipment;
  • Short-term inpatient care, including respite care;
  • Social services;
  • Spiritual, dietary and other counseling;
  • Continuous care during periods of crisis;
  • Trained volunteers;
  • Bereavement counseling for up to 13 months following a patient's death.
