Hospice care is a covered benefit under Medicare, Medicaid, and private insurance sold in the State of Kentucky.
The Medicare hospice benefit provides the following services:
- Nursing services on an intermittent basis;
- Physician services;
- Drugs, including outpatient drugs for pain relief and medical symptom management;
- Home health aide services;
- Medical supplies and equipment;
- Short-term inpatient care, including respite care;
- Social services;
- Spiritual, dietary and other counseling;
- Continuous care during periods of crisis;
- Trained volunteers;
- Bereavement counseling for up to 13 months following a patient's death.
